DCENT biometric hardware wallet supports iOS and Android devices using Bluetooth (or OTG cable) and works with the D’CENT wallet app.
D’CENT fits nicely in the palm of your hand, big OLED display where all transactions are clearly visible, a central square for fingerprint authentication (the reason why it is called a biometric wallet), circled with up, left, down, right/OK button and the side button to power on/off. Really nice design.
Robust security with the audited Secure Element EAL5+ and specially made secure OS embedded on the microprocessor.
How To Set Up D’CENT Hardware Wallet
In the package you get the D’CENT hardware device, a USB cable to charge it using any power source, 2 recovery phrase sheets, a welcome card, and a 1-year guarantee card.
Press and hold the button on the right side to start the hardware wallet. I haven’t charged it before, but the battery lasted for days. Choose the language. You will confirm and enter settings by pressing the OK button (right on the circle you will see it better in other pictures).
Choose Create wallet and OK.
Now set the 8 numbers PIN CODE.
And the Fingerprint authentication, I used my thumb 🙂 Place it on the central square. Move it a couple of times until it’s 100% and done.
You will now be shown your recovery phrase/seed. It is a form of your private key which is kept safe inside the chip of the hardware wallet where transactions are signed internally and confirmed manually by you. It proves your ownership over the wallet/s and cryptocurrency (which is always stored on the blockchain itself of course).
It’s the reason why hardware wallets exist (cold storage), if anybody else gets your private key you lose ownership over your cryptocurrency. It’s the kind of security software wallets can’t provide, as from the start this phrase in the case of free software wallets is not shown on your hardware wallet physical device but on your PC or Mobile connected to the internet (hot storage) and from that same moment it can be snitched easily like any other information from your regular device.
Write down the recovery phrase on the recovery sheet you got or any other piece of paper. Keep it offline and safe, and you can use it anytime to recover your wallet.
As you can see, the wallets for the cryptocurrencies have already been generated.
We will now pair the DCENT wallet using Bluetooth with our Mobile device. And just after that install the DCENT app. If you haven’t read these instructions, you would probably rush in to do it right away.
Scroll down to Settings and open it.
Enter Bluetooth.
Choose iOS or Android depending on the device you are using.
D’CENT is now ready to pair to your mobile device through Bluetooth.
On your Mobile phone enable Bluetooth and scan for the device, find D’CENT, and click on it.
As you can see, I have used my Android phone to pair it with the other hardware wallets using Bluetooth connection, Ledger Nano X, a very popular one, and CoolWallet Pro, which is interesting in design (size of credit card).
You then enter the numbers shown on your D’CENT hardware wallets, you could see mine above and click OK on the mobile device screen.
And that’s it. Once you did it, you don’t have to repeat it ever again in the future, except if you want to pair it with some other device.
You now install the D’CENT App for Android or iOS.
Open the App. Select Biometric Wallet.
Click the Plus button to add the wallet. Now that we have prepared both the hardware wallet and the mobile device it will recognize it and sync in a matter of seconds.
And done. You can now add wallets to the D’CENT app you want to use and that the hardware wallet supports.
How To Update D’CENT Firmware
On your hardware wallet, you can scroll down and, in the settings, see what’s the version of your firmware.
So mine was 2.7.0:
You will need to use a PC/DESKTOP for this. Connect your D’CENT hardware wallet to it using the USB cable and then visit https://fwu.dcentwallet.com/ and then just follow the instructions.
Great I updated my firmware to the latest version,
In the D’CENT app found new features and added the new wallets and blockchains it now supports!
Add Wallets To D’CENT App, Receive, Send Cryptocurrency
These are some of the wallets I have added to the D’CENT App and plan to use. You notice the No Connection to D’Cent hardware wallet in the top right RED sign. I don’t need it right now as I can receive all of these cryptocurrencies using their public address.
I am going to send some Binance Smart Chain BNB to my wallet. To add more wallets that the D’CENT hardware wallet supports (and the tokens that reside on these blockchains like ERC20, BEP20, TRX20 etc) click the plus sign.
I have chosen the Binance Smart Chain since the transactions are fast, so I can continue with the review. I got the BNB BP20 tokens in my wallet fast.
A cool feature is you can track your cryptocurrency portfolio at the top and what coins make up part of it. It’s 100% BNB now, of course 🙂
And the Binance Smart Chain BNB BEP20 tokens in my wallet.
In order to send it or do any kind of other transactions like the usage on the DApps (we’ll get to this) it needs to be signed with your private key which is kept safely in your D’CENT hardware wallet, so we need to connect it through Bluetooth now.
Start the D’CENT wallet. The blue light on it signalize the Bluetooth is ON. Turn ON the Bluetooth on your mobile. It will recognize it automatically if not Click the top right sign in your D’CENT app, which is now RED, to sync, it turns to BLUE, and DONE.
Let’s now send out the Binance Smart Chain BNB from our DCENT wallet.
Click on the wallet in your D’CENT app and SEND. Paste the address or scan the QR Code.
Click NEXT.
You now sign the transaction with your D’CENT hardware wallet. You click OK button on it to Confirm.
Now the Fingerprint authentication.
Now check your D’CENT App. Cryptocurrency is sent!
What Fingerprint they are mentioning in this message? Well, for the D’CENT app, you can enable it also, besides the PIN CODE you have already set, I didn’t find it necessary but you can do it in DCENT APP Settings.
Along with APP changing the password, local currency, which shows the value of your crypto assets, also see the firmware version like on the hardware wallet itself, contact support…
The information shown on the D’CENT hardware wallet are fully and clearly visible, I have multiple phones, but the camera on this one isn’t the greatest. And I am an article writer, not YouTuber, etc., so sorry about that but hope you could see and figure out all the processes so far without confusion.
We are also always getting and answering many emails about different blockchain topics and how to do things to help people, so feel free to contact us 🙂
Use D’CENT Wallet On DApps (Decentralized Applications)
You can use your D’CENT wallet just to keep your cryptocurrency safe, and that’s what most users do, especially from the Bitcoin community.
The users of the other blockchains probably want to use the DCENT on the DApps like DEXes, AMM (Automated Market Makers), for the NFT (non-fungible tokens)…
In the App Collectibles tab, you can see your bought NFTs collection.
While The Discovery tab is the DApps explorer. You can switch networks (top right), use WalletConnect (top left), or type the website address of the DApp directly or search for it.
It supports many networks: Ethererum, Binance Smart Chain, Polygon, HECO, RSK, xDAi, Fantom Opera XinFin, Celo, Klaytn, Tron…
I have chosen the Binance Smart Chain, as you can see in the top right and connected to its most popular Defi Protocol PancakeSwap.
I can do swaps, add liquidity, yield farming, but all transactions must be confirmed using my D’CENT hardware wallet.
